Ahree Lee Print Edition
Ahree Lee Print Edition
The design of this risograph print is based on the weaving Timesheet: November 4–10, 2018 that Ahree Lee wove at the Women’s Center for Creative Work while she was Artist in Residence during the fall of 2019. It documents how the artist spent her time during a week-long period in 2018, and assigns all of her activity to one of a half dozen different categories including child care, housework, art practice, and sleep. By giving these ephemeral activities form through the weaving, Lee is making the invisible and undervalued domestic labor visible and transforming it into an artwork with monetary and cultural value. The print takes the overall form of the weaving, but reproduces the weaving patterns using the ones and zeroes of binary code. The imperfections, smudges, and mis-registrations inherent in the low-fidelity risograph printing process are analogous to the idiosyncrasies of hand-weaving and highlight the difference between humans and machines and the divide between hand making and digital technology.
This is a hand-numbered edition of 30.
